Common IBC containers
Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC), are specialized for shipping and storing a lot of liquids or materials. They are designed in a manner that minimizes space while maximizing the volume that can be stored in the containers.
Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC), are reusable containers designed for the standardized shipment of liquids or granulated substances. IBC containers are not only efficient, but can be used for a multitude of purposes in various industries. Farmers use IBC containers to carry food ingredients, while pharmacists use them to transport chemicals. Cleaners carry soap and other solvents, and manufacturers store products, such as molasses or oils, in IBC containers. They are often used to transport or store dangerous goods or hazardous materials. Many also rely on IBC containers to transport a safe water supply. The type of IBC containers you purchase depends on what you intend to transport in it.
Intermediate bulk containers (IBC) are industrial grade, reusable containers designed for handling, transporting and storing liquids, semi-solids or pastes. IBCs are gradually replacing the traditional barrels or drums when it comes to storing liquids. They are most commonly 1000 litres in capacity and are U.N. approved for transport of chemicals in the same way as drums are. The use of IBC containers is becoming more popular due to the host of advantages over the conventional 205 litre barrel or drum. Before selecting the storage container that is right for you, ensure you have taken the factors outlined above into account. From space advantages to superior storage capacity, IBC’s offer a range of benefits over traditional barrels or drums. To ensure total safety when storing chemicals, you must also consider fire protection, location of your chemical store, ventilation, frost protection and personnel safety.
IBCs are used for liquids and particulates (i.e. powders, granulates, resins), products that later will undergo filling into smaller packaging or will be an ingredient or component in a production or manufacturing process.
Within such industries as food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and household chemicals, packaging professionals devote themselves to the design and development of packaging, the receipt of packaging, the filling of packaging, and the shipping of packaged products. How the inputs to production come packaged──whether in IBCs or other industrial containers──might be regarded as the province of corporate purchasing agents or of someone at the production facility. Such thinking, however, undermines the opportunity for packaging professionals to contribute outside their traditional spheres of influence.
To understand the role of intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) is to understand the name itself: containers, in that they hold contents; bulk, in that the contents are of large, undivided quantities; and intermediate, in that the containers hold quantities that are smaller than those of tank cars but larger than those of industrial drums, pails, and totes.
Intermediate Bulk Container-A sustainable way for packaging.
The traditional folding bag-in-box cube container is a popular storage medium for both liquid and dry goods. Unfortunately, the cost of purchase has been a major consideration for many companies, particularly those currently renting but wanting to own their own Pool. This has now changed with the introduction into industry Joinwell Packaging . Developed using knowledge gained from many years of manufacturing this type of container, the Joinwell Packaging combines the best of design with the advantages of low cost sourcing. The IBC container is available as a liquid bag-in-box or as a dry goods container that can be tipped. There are some introductions regarding the IBC container:
One advantage of the container is that it can be specifically configured to a customer’s needs if the Pool requirement is as little as one 40’ shipping container quantity (120 units). This includes closely matching plastic panel colour to corporate branding, adding identification plates or markings, as well as changing gate orientation and features. It can also include a change from the standard footprint to a 1200 x 1000mm footprint. The Joinwell Packaging is tested to International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) Standards and is manufactured in an
accredited facility by a major world leader in the manufacture of intermediate bulk containers. It all adds up to excellent value at a very competitive price.
Carrying liquid in Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) is a standard application for the food and chemical industries. Joinwell Packaging Solutions has years of experience in the multi-layer liner bag to hold the contents being stored or transported. Folding IBC save space and transport costs compared to rigid IBC and will last a many years.
